The day following Easter, the Bidens welcomed upwards of 40,000 visitors to the White House for the 146th year tradition dating back to 1878: The White House Easter Egg Roll. This marks the third occasion the President and First Lady have overseen the event since its cancellation in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Continuing the administration's emphasis on "EGGucation,” this holiday season, Dr. Biden, a teacher herself, offered a diverse array of hands-on STEM activities that ignited the children's enthusiasm. The First Lady opened the ceremony off from the Blue Room Balcony; "I’m a teacher, so I love any time when we can turn the White House into a classroom. And that’s what we’re doing today."
President Biden continued with… "Easter reminds us of the power of hope and renewal, sacrifice and resurrection, but mainly love and grace toward one another. It’s a time to pray for one another, to cherish the blessings and the possibilities that we have as Americans."
Some youngsters engaged in captivating science experiments, featuring a special appearance by TikTok sensation "The Space Gal," who showcased her explosive demonstrations. Meanwhile, others immersed themselves in quiet reading sessions within the numerous reading alcoves scattered across the South Lawn. Some learned about the forthcoming solar eclipse on April 8th, while others wrote letters to troops. But most of all was getting to meet and say to the Easter Bunny.
President Biden, along with the First Lady, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Second Gentlemen Doug Emhoff, participated in egg throwing games throughout the south lawn.
Biden told NBC's Today Show host, Al Roker, "This is the people's house. It makes me feel great to see average Americans out there because they own it." The Bidens are hopeful to host a few more of these events in the coming years… We’ll just have to wait and see.
