President Biden hosted and welcomed Greek-Americans from the Greek community to mark the 203rd anniversary of Greek Independence, showcasing the generosity between Greece and the United States.
His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America highlighted the event, speaking on how much Biden means to the Greek community, “Mr. President, you have been a close and trusted friend of the Greek-American family, and we consider you to be one of our very own.”
He continued to speak about the Biden administration's assistance with the Russia-Ukraine War. “You continue to be the leading advocate for the cause of our Ukrainian brothers and sisters. You continue to stand with Ukraine, and for your unbreakable and unshakeable support.”
Biden spoke for about 10 minutes addressing the guests, “So, Your Eminence, thank you for reminding us of the core values that unite Greece and America and so many other people around the world.
“The people of the United States did not just inherit democracy; we have to be its defenders.”
“Welcome to the White House, everybody. This is your house, and you’re one of the reasons why, as I said, I’m here and why this house is here.”
The guests attending the celebration reception included: Ambassador of the United States to the Hellenic Republic, George Tsnis; Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the United States, Katerina Nassika; Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the United States, Evangelos Savva; Lieutenant Governor of California, Eleni Kounalakis; Colorado Congressman Doug Lamborn; and Delaware State Representative Spiros Mantzavinos.
